Habibul Bashar scored 399 runs at an average of 66.50 to win the Man of the Series award

Bangladesh v England - 3rd Test - at Dhaka - 1997/8 - Match Report

England stand in captain Alec Stewart plundered a triple century as his side completed an easy 3-0 series victory over a dispirited Bangladesh side.

Stewart batted almost 11 hours in the first innings and added 287 for the 5th wicket with allrounder Adam Hollioake who posted a maiden Test century.

Off spinner Robert Croft claimed an easy 5 wicket haul after some limp batting saw Bangladesh trail by over 500 runs on 1st innings, but with plenty of time left captain Stewart elected to bat again.

Mark Ramprakash cashed in with an unbeaten century in England's 2nd innings before his side completed a massive 522 run victory.

Bangladesh batsman Habibul Bashar emerged with credit after being his nation's first ever Test century maker and looks set for a promising international career, his batting one of the few positives for his side during a difficult debut series.

Bashar was named Man of the Series for his consistent batting efforts in all 3 Tests but England dominated the series rom start to finish and were never really challenged.

England now head to India for a long tour including 6 Tests, while Bangladesh host Zimbabwe for a shorter 3 Test series.

England stand in captain Alec Stewart celebrates his triple century in the 3rd Test v Bangladesh at Dhaka

Bangladesh v England - 3rd Test - at Dhaka - 1997/8 - Match Preview

Bangladesh and England return to Dhaka for the 3rd and final Test of their series with England leading the series 2-0.

England have rested a number of first choice players for this one in order to give their players game time ahead of a tour of India, and this may give Bangladesh an outside chance of posting a victory.

Leg spinner Ian Salisbury, not in the original England squad, was flown in on the eve of the match due to the state of the pitch, the high bounce expected to favour his style of bowling more than the finger spinners.

Alec Stewart is set to captain the England side but gives up the gloves to reserve keeper Jack Russell for this one.

Pitch: 92 - Rather an odd looking pitch of varying colour and the groundsman is reported as being a little unhappy with his product. The wicket is likely to play reasonably for a couple of days but as the surface wears unevenly the bounce may be affected making batting difficult. If the wicket wears badly on the final day the batsmen will need to concern themselves about survival rather than embarking on a run chase.

Day 1 Starting Pitch: 4 - Normal wicket

Day 1 Weather: 2 - Hot and sunny

Dhaka hosts the 3rd and final Test of the series between Bangladesh and England in 1997/8

Bangladesh v England - 2nd Test - at Chittagong - 1997/8 - Match Report

Bangladesh put up a spirited performance in the 2nd Test but crumbled late on Day 5 to lose an entertaining match by 83 runs.

A better batting pitch was appreciated by batsmen on both teams but England's bowling skill was enough to secure victory with an over to spare on Day 5 after a late collapse of 4 wickets for 1 run by the Bangladesh tail.

Bangladesh looked an outside chance of victory after good batting by Javed Omar and Habibul Bashar in their 2nd innings but ultimately fell short to had England an unbeatable 2-0 series lead.

Graham Thorpe was named Man of the Match for his first innings 151, an innings which handed his team an advantage they maintained throughout.

The teams now head back to Dhaka for the 3rd Test with England expected to test the depth of their squad and rest some of their first choice players now the series is secured.
