Bangladesh A v England XI - 3 day match - at Chittagong - 1997/8 - Match Report

The England XI completed an easy victory over an inexperienced Bangladesh A side at Chittagong in the first match of the tour.

The victory was set up by an unbeaten century in each innings to England XI middle order batsman John Crawley, and excellent bowling in Bangladesh A's first innings in particular.

England XI posted 337/6 in their 1st Innings on the back of Crawley's first unbeaten century of the match, before a declaration about an hour before Stumps on Day 1.

Bangladesh A were then shot out for just 54 with England XI left arm fast medium bowler Alan Mullally taking 5-18 to trail on first innings by 283 runs.

England XI captain Mike Atherton declined to enforce the follow on, and Graeme Hick and John Crawley enjoyed the extra batting practice in posting unbeaten centuries before a declaration at Stumps on Day 2.

With all 90 overs on Day 3 to take 10 wickets the England XI still felt they had enough time to win the match and Atherton's decision to bat again was fully justified when his side won comfortably with about 40 minutes to spare.

Bangladesh A v England XI - at Chittagong - 1997/8 - Match Preview

England open their tour of Bangladesh in 1997/8 with a 3 day match versus Bangladesh A at Chittagong.

The match looms as an important Test trial for players both teams with a number of positions in both nation's Test XI's still undecided.

It could be a tough introduction to First Class cricket for Bangladesh A, with all eleven players in their team set to make their First Class career Debuts in this game.

The England XI is expected to have too much class and experience for the young Bangladeshis in this one though the nature of 3 day cricket means the home side could still avoid defeat.

Pitch: 66 - A nicely prepared pitch with the promise of an even contest between batsman and bowler. Some early pace in the wicket is expected to make the Toss a mixed blessing, but the wicket is likely to favour the spinners on the final day.

England Tour of Bangladesh 1997/8

The first tour I will cover is an England tour of Bangladesh in 1997/8, for which I have given Bangladesh their Test status 3 years early.

England have chosen a 20 man squad with a tour of India to follow later in the season at some point.

The tour will feature one 3 day warm up game and 3 Tests.

The Bangladesh side will be made up future Test players who played for Bangladesh in 1997/8 or before in either First Class, List A or ODI cricket.

My Fake Cricket Scores - Site Introduction

Welcome to My Fake Cricket Scores, an attempt to rewrite cricket history using a dice game called International Cricket by Owzat/Lambourne Games.

I will use this blog to post scorecards, match reports, and other information from the matches I play.

I will be jumping around through history a bit because I like to use players from different eras, so it won't be a continuous cricket history, more a collection of tours from over the years that will eventually complete a full calendar in my Cricket Statz 11 database.
